Things were going along just fine for Trey Burton on Dec. 8, 2010. A true freshman at the University of Florida, Burton’s transition from Venice High’s star quarterback to the Swiss army knife of running backs was complete, as the wide-eyed 18-year-old finished his debut season leading the Gators in rushing touchdowns (11) while also contributing on special teams.
On Dec. 9, 2010, Urban Meyer’s resignation set off a two-year tailspin that nearly rendered Burton a one-year wonder.
