Elizabeth Anne Coverdale Groff Lawlor, 83, of Venice, Fla., formerly of Lewes, Del., passed away Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2013.
Elizabeth was born May 16, 1930, in Warren, Pa., to Marshall G. Coverdale and Dorothy Smith Coverdale. She graduated high school in 1948 and attended Villa Maria Academy in Erie, Pa. She graduated from Delaware Hospital School of Nursing in Wilmington, Del., in 1951 and worked as a school nurse for 17 years, from 1983 to 2000 at Venice Elementary School. She was School Nurse of the Year in 1999 for the state of Florida.
Elizabeth was also a 30-year member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church and was a member of St. Mark’s Altar Guild for many years.
Elizabeth married David C. Groff in 1951; he predeceased her after 23 years of marriage in 1975 in Rhode Island. They had one daughter, Mary Elizabeth Groff Bowers, of Orlando, Fla. Elizabeth moved to Venice, Fla., in 1979 after marrying Thomas M. Lawlor.
Survivors also include her sister, Mary Scepura of Grizzly Flats, Calif.; six grandchildren, Anthony, Nicholas, Garrett, Jack, Michael and Amelia; one great-granddaughter, Anatevka; and her stepchildren, Dana Lawlor (John) Dunlevy of Florham Park, N.J., Marilyn Lawlor (Joe) Pellicone of Westfield, N.J., Patricia Lawlor (Terry) Morgerson of Venice, Fla., and Thomas Joseph (Ellen) Lawlor of Osprey, Fla.
Elizabeth was predeceased by her sister, Joan Smith.
Services: A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 5, at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, with inurnment following at Sarasota National Cemetery. Farley Funeral Home is handling arrangements. To send condolences, visit:
