Coral Creek possible haven for juvenile fish

This dam straddling Coral Creek was built when the Vanderbilt family owned a ranch that is now Coral Creek Preserve in Placida. The Vanderbilts sold the property in 1951. Southwest Florida Water Management District is restoring the preserve.

Nearing completion of the first phase of a restoration effort on the 2,200-acre Coral Creek Preserve, the Southwest Florida Water Management District is preparing for phase 2.

The second phase could determine whether Coral Creek is a nursery for fingerling, snook or tarpon.
