New foreclosure filings in August dropped by roughly 50 percent in Sarasota County and by nearly 75 percent in Charlotte County over the same month last year, confirming what real estate experts have been saying for months: The housing market is on the upswing and gaining momentum.
In Sarasota County, the Clerk of Courts reported a total of 178 new filings in August, up from 133 in July. That’s a 25 percent increase over last month, but a 49 percent decrease over the same period last year. In August of 2012, there were 352 new foreclosures filed in Sarasota County.
