NORTH PORT — Along with the rest of the Sarasota County Library system, the North Port Library is taking part in marking this year’s Viva Florida 500 celebration, commemorating the anniversary of Juan Ponce de Leon’s landing on the state’s east coast, upon which he declared the land “La Florida.”

As part of that celebration, at 1 p.m. Saturday, children’s librarian Pamela Burch will introduce families to some authentic Seminole crafts and folklore. Burch said the Miccosukee dance troupe she had hoped to have come up from near Miami already was booked for this weekend.
