Carl Fischer surveys the site Tuesday were the Traveling Vietnam Wall war memorial will be erected this afternoon in Pioneer Park on Dearborn Street in Englewood. The wall will arrive later today escorted by Sarasota County deputies and a cadre of motorcycle-riding veterans. The park will be open to visitors around the clock until being disassembled Monday. A special ceremony will be held at the memorial at 10 a.m. Saturday.
When the Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall is erected and awaiting visitors in Pioneer Park late Wednesday, it will be the culmination of years of hard work by Cher Macey and others from Englewood’s Clyde E. Lassen VFW Post 10178.
“It’s been a big project,” Macey said. “We had to book the wall two years in advance to make sure we could get it here.”
