This graphic, provided by the city of Venice, shows the acreage a new water treatment facility would take up if it were located in Pinebrook Park. There are currently no plans to build it there, but city officials are looking for a potential site.
The Venice City Council heard testimony Wednesday from representatives of numerous organizations that use the Wellfield Park sports complex, including Challenger Baseball, which wants to play there, and a grassroots organization founded recently to save the adjoining nature trail.
Some of the groups indicated a desire to expand their sports offerings to youth, citing a need for more ball fields in the city. The No. 1 complaint was lack of drainage on the fields, followed closely by lack of parking.
