Trade-offs likely in assuming dock permitting

City of Venice staff is moving forward with a new draft structures-over-water ordinance that will bring dock permitting back under the city’s purview, but it won’t be easy. Corners may have to be cut, and permits may be more expensive than they hoped.
City Manager Ed Lavallee and Planning Administrator Chad Minor outlined their intentions — and their concerns — in a May 18 memo to city council.
