Floyd A. Armstrong

Floyd A. Armstrong, 86, wintering resident of Punta Gorda, Fla., and Gladwin, Mich., passed away Sunday, Feb. 10, 2013.

He was born Dec. 23, 1926, in Pontiac, Mich., to Arthur and Fannie Armstrong.

Floyd served during WWII in the U.S. Merchant Marines, and retired as a Pipe Fitter in 1988 from the General Motors Co., Truck & Bus plant. He was an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed hunting, camping, fishing, boating, and just relaxing in the Florida sunshine. Floyd was an avid and lifetime fan of the Detroit Tigers, enjoyed bowling, playing golf, and the card game Euchre. He was a lifetime member of the Elks Lodge 810 in Waterford, Mich. Floyd will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Lucy Armstrong of Punta Gorda, and Gladwin; children, David Armstrong of Waterford, Christi (Glenn) Carpenter of Holly, Mich., and Debra Wallace of Rochester Hills, Mich.; grandchildren, Kelly R., Tracey, Larry, Kelly A., Casey, Jason, Sean and Cristopher; 10 great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 12 p.m. until 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013, at the Kays-Ponger & Uselton Funeral Home, 635 E Marion Ave, Punta Gorda, FL 33950. The funeral will follow at 2 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to Tidewell Hospice at tidewell.org.
