Leona M. Lesky

Leona M. (nee Laukitis) Lesky, 92, of Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away Friday, Jan. 25, 2013, at Fawcett Memorial Hospital in Port Charlotte.

She was born Oct. 29, 1920, to Charles and Marcella (nee Aravich) Laukitis in DuBois, Pa.

Leona moved to Port Charlotte from Elyria, Ohio, in 1982; before moving to Florida, she was employed by Hess and Hess Drugs in Elyria for over 25 years. Leona was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother. She enjoyed her 16 years of volunteer service for Fawcett Memorial Hospital, where she donated almost 5,000 hours. Leona also had been a volunteer for the former Bon Secours-St. Joseph Hospital for 15 years. She was a member of H2U (Senior Friends) at Fawcett, where she was able to participate in many travel, luncheon and other events. Tuesday mornings, you could find her with other H2U crafters making items for the patients at Fawcett. Leona will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.

She is survived by her daughter, Janet (Dennis) Walker; grandchildren, Scott (fiancée Ellen Dvorak) Walker, Tracy Morris and Kelli (Steve) Worobel; great-grandchildren, Makenzie and Matt Morris, and Stephen Worobel; her brother, Ralph (Irene) Laukitis of DuBois; son-in-law, John Filimon of Port Charlotte; brother-in-law, Joseph (Mae) Lesky of DuBois; sisters-in-law, Mary Ivoska of DuBois, Helen (Chuck) Betts of Harborcreek, Pa., Stella (Jack) Freemer of Brockway, Pa., Dorothy Laukitis, and Adeline Lesky of Jacksonville, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bernard “Babe,” in 1981; daughter, Kathy Filimon, in 2006; brother, Bernie Laukitis; sisters, Ann (Jack) Lommock and Gertrude (John) Amilkavich; younger siblings, Charles, Octavia and Paul; brothers-in-law, Victor (Stella) Lesky, Edward Lesky and Frank Ivoska; and sister-in-law, Jenny (Tom) Kosko.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 8, 2013, at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Port Charlotte, with a reception following Mass at the H2U Center in the Promenades Mall. Interment will be at a later date at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Elyria.

Arrangements are by Kays-Ponger & Uselton Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Port Charlotte Chapel.
