Joseph E. Murphy Jr., 74, of Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013, at Fawcett Memorial Hospital in Port Charlotte.

He was born Sept. 27, 1938, in Philadelphia, Pa., and moved to Port Charlotte 10 years ago from East Stroudsburg, Pa.

Joseph was a retired police officer and a member of the Blue Knights International Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club.

He is survived by his loving family, including three daughters, Kathleen Anne Whitworth of North Port, Fla., Elizabeth Tienjaroonkul of Pembroke Pines, Fla., and Kimberly Murphy of Philadelphia; two sons, Joseph E. Murphy III of San Antonio, Texas, and Patrick Murphy of Philadelphia; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25, 2013, at Roberson Funeral Home, Port Charlotte Chapel. The Rev. Brian James will officiate. Friends may visit online at www.robersonfh.com to sign the memory book and extend condolences to the family.
