John V. Arban Jr.
On the evening of January 8th John V. Arban, Jr., of Port Charlotte, Florida passed away, his beloved wife Cindy by his side.
John was born 6/10/1932 in Washington, DC, son of John V. Arban, Sr. and Lucille Cuiffreda Arban. John attended Woodrow Wilson HS in the District, and went on to attend the University of Virginia, graduating from the School of Commerce in 1956. While at UVA he pledged Sigma Nu fraternity and remained close with his brothers throughout his life. He joined his father’s business, Arban & Carosi, Inc., a preeminent architectural precast concrete firm. Initially a draftsman, John eventually became the company’s president, a position he held until he sold his share of the business in 1980.
He married the love of his life, Cindy Gutierrez, in 1985 and together they enjoyed boating up and down the bay while living in Solomons, MD. They moved to Port Charlotte, FL, in 2000. John was outgoing, charming, and funny. He was an avid Redskins fan attending every game at Griffith Stadium and RFK, and was so glad to see they made it to the playoffs this year!
In spite of challenges to his health over the years, his travels included cruises and visits to Europe. The purchase of an RV enabled them to visit family in Virginia and California, accompanied by their 3 “babies” Bruno Meyer, Little Paco Meyer, and mother Mitzy Meyer, all from a 30 year long line of Meyers starting with Oscar Meyer 1st.
In addition to his wife, he leaves his children, CJ (June) Arban FitzHenry, Janice A. Burns (Jinny), Julie Gohl, Jacqueline (Jackie) Lamberson and his grandchildren, Rachel Marie Burns, Jason Lamberson and Deanna Lamberson. He also leaves his daughter- and sons-in-law: Kathleen Sullivan Arban, Jim FitzHenry, Pat Rennie and Robert Gohl.
Two other grandchildren preceded him in death, Christopher Lee Lamberson, and Katherine Anne Burns.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations in memory of John Arban to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Services will be held in Solomons Island, MD at a later date.
