Paul L. Veum

Paul L. Veum, 66, of Port Charlotte, Fla., formerly of Westby, Wis., passed away Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2012, at Peace River Regional Medical Center with his wife by his side.

He was born July 2, 1946, to Kermit A and Alice E. (nee Solberg) Veum.

Paul graduated from Westby High School and then went on the University of Wisconsin – Madison. Upon graduating from Madison, he went on to the The College of Veterinary Medicine and the University of Minnesota. After graduating, Paul returned to Westby were he worked as a veterinarian and eventually opened Veum Veterinarians along with his brother, Cedric. He married Carol L. Bardill, Oct. 27, 1990, at Westby Coon Praire Church. They were blessed to share 22 years, together. Paul was in the FFA and was the State of Wisconsin Star Farmer, and served as Wisconsin State Vice President. During his spare time he restored corvettes to production line perfection. Various vehicles sold to California, Australia, Canada, and New Jersey. Paul served as a nationally recognized judge for the Corvette Restores Society and Bloomington Gold. Paul always tried to live by two mottos, “ When the going gets though, the tough get going and If you can’t do the job right leave it alone and get someone who can.” He lived a very full life and will be greatly missed by all who new him.

Paul is survived by his wife, Carol; daughters, Cynthia (Rick Shearing) Veum, Rebecca (Dan) Perry both of Portland, Ore.; brothers, K David (Elizabeth) of Westby, Trygve (Marge) of Columbia, Mo., Cedric (Margaret) of Westby; mother-in-law, Lu Bardill of Port Charlotte; sister-in-laws, Linda (Brian) Daetsch of Arlington, Mass., Mary Olson of Port Charlotte; grandchildren, Raina and Roxanna both of Portland; and many nieces and nephews; and wonderful friends. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Kermit and Alice Veum; daughter Andrea, father-in-law, Edward Bardill; and brother-in-law, Mark Olson.

There will be a memorial service at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 10, 2012, at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Port Charlotte. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, 26 Broadway, 14th Floor, New York, N.Y. 10004, or Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 2565 Tamiami Trl., Port Charlotte, FL, 33952.

Arrangements are by National Cremation.
