Isabella Smith, a sixth-grader at Punta Gorda Middle School, is spearheading a Teen for Jeans clothing drive at the school. Teen for Jeans is a program orchestrated by Aeropostale, and the goal is to collect used but wearable jeans for homeless teens across the nation. All collections stay in the community they were donated.
While making a purchase at Aeropostale, a clothing outlet geared toward teenage boys and girls at the Port Charlotte Town Center recently, Punta Gorda resident Isabella Smith received more than her purchases in a bag. She was also given a slip explaining the Teens For Jeans program sponsored by the store.
The information on the flyer piqued her interest, and the Punta Gorda Middle School sixth-grader immediately looked it up online when she returned home from shopping. Smith was instantly moved by the concept of the program after viewing the presentation, which focuses on collecting used, but wearable jeans, for those teenagers who are staying at homeless shelters across the country.
