TAMPA — Two years ago, the DeSoto County boys basketball program was struggling.

After stumbling to a 4-16 season, Richard Koonce came in to try to turn the Bulldogs around. The Bulldogs lost in the regional quarterfinals 73-43 to Berkeley Prep on Thursday, but Koonce said his team never quit and had come a long way since two years.
