Report: Teens charged in car-hopping spree
PORT CHARLOTTE — Two teens were arrested on a total of 34 charges after they allegedly went on a “car hopping” spree, burglarizing several unlocked vehicles in a Port Charlotte neighborhood, according to the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office.
Derrick Alexander Crissinger, 19, 4000 block of Kinney St., told CCSO deputies that he and a 16-year-old Port Charlotte boy decided to go “car hopping” after midnight Feb. 16 to celebrate his 19th birthday, according to a report. Crissinger admitted to taking items from vehicles on the 1100 blocks of LeMars, Lodi and Beaumont avenues near Midway Boulevard and Edgewater Drive, including several GPS units, two cameras and a cellphone, the report states. Crissinger told deputies he also acted as “lookout” so his friend could burglarize them as well.
