Bertha C. “Bobbie” Houseman, 80, of Punta Gorda, Fla., passed away Thursday, Nov. 15, 2012.

She was born Feb. 8, 1932, to William and Catherine (nee Lonsdale) Stinson of Philadelphia, Pa.

Bobbie was our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was married to her beloved husband, Walter P. Houseman. Bobbie was a resident of Punta Gorda, and a former resident of Egg Harbor City, N.J. She was raised in Philly, and that is where she met the love of her life, Walt. They married Dec. 26, 1952, in Arlington, Va. Walt passed away April 1, 1998. Together they had two children, Druene “Dee” (Blaine) Sweet-Greenwood and Jeannene (Lee) Krips. Bobbie was one of a kind, and there will never be another one like her. She was game for any occasion when she could dress in costume and have fun. Bobbie loved to tell jokes, but usually mangled the punch lines. She loved to paint, not with oils or watercolors, but with latex paint and a foam brush. Many places and objects in Parkhill Estates bear the reminder of Bobbie and her “paint wagon.” She liked cigarettes, bologna and bourbon-soaked grapes. Bobbie’s favorite saying was, “It Ain’t Easy Being a Sex Goddess.” There are many funny stories about her antics. Bobbie volunteered for many different groups throughout her life. She especially enjoyed helping with food prep and service. If Bobbie loved you, she loved you completely. She could be ornery and stubborn. Bobbie cared about — and for — her friends. She never took a kindness shown for granted. We are all better for having known her.

Bobbie is survived by her daughters and their spouses; granddaughters, Jessica (Dave) and Jennifer; and great-grandchildren, Zachary, Slade and Bailey.

The family would like to thank Dr. Watine and his staff, Dr. Galliano, and the nurses on staff on the 2nd floor PCU at Charlotte Regional Medical Center, for their care and professionalism. Thanks to Tidewell Hospice for their help, and to Charlotte Memorial Gardens, and Doreena Medina for their many kindnessess.

A celebration memorial of Bobbie’s life will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 3, 2012, at the Rec Hall at Parkhill Estates. All are welcome. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the charity of your choice.

Arrangements are by Charlotte Memorial Funeral Home.
