David P. Upright, 65, of Port Charlotte, Fla., and formerly of Boynton Beach, Fla., passed away Friday, Nov. 2, 2012.

He was born Sept. 16, 1947, in Norwalk, Conn., the son of Arthur and Patricia (nee Horton) Upright.

David served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, and retired from home remodeling in 2001. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Elks and St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Church. David enjoyed living in Heritage Oaks; he loved all the wonderful friends he made there. He especially loved the parties and dances and couldn’t wait for water aerobics each week. To stay in shape, David went to Golden Years Gym. The ladies there would take great care of David, and he looked forward to going. They all knew him as “Mr. Excellent!” David was also very excited about meeting his first grandchild in December. The one thing he would want everyone to remember is to take time to stop and smell the roses — there is no reason to rush.

David will be greatly missed by his mother, Patricia Upright; daughters, Brandy Truex and Stori Upright; brothers, Brian Upright, T.J. Upright and Shawn Upright; and niece and nephews.

A memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 9, 2012, at St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Church, 1441 Spear St., Port Charlotte, FL 33948. Memorial donations may be made to St. Vincent de Paul, St. Maximilian Kolbe Parish. To express condolences to the family, please visit www.Ltaylorfuneral.com and sign the online guestbook.

Arrangements are by Larry Taylor Funeral and Cremation Services.
