Travers Schloss, 85, of Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away Friday, Feb. 17, 2012, at Charlotte Harbor Healthcare in Charlotte Harbor, Fla.

He was born May 12, 1926, in Malvern, St. Elizabeth, Jamaica, West Indies, to Ernest and Maud (nee Kavanaugh) Schloss.

Travers moved to this area 24 years ago from Hartford, Conn. He worked as an auto mechanic for The Hartford Insurance Company and was a member of St. James Episcopal Church in Port Charlotte.

Travers is survived by his loving wife, Florence (nee Rhoden) of Port Charlotte; son, Ramsay of Bronx, N.Y.; daughters, Claudette of London, Ontario, Canada, and Beverly (Carlton) of Toronto, Ontario, Canada; siblings, Glanford, Hyacinth, Delia, and Orlando, all of Jamaica, Fitzroy of Orlando, Fla., and Elaine of Maryland; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Sean.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 24, 2012, at St. James Episcopal Church, 1365 Viscaya Dr., Port Charlotte, FL. Funeral Services will be at 11 a.m., at the church with Father Cesar Olivero officiating. Burial will follow at Restlawn Memorial Gardens in Port Charlotte.
