Patricia Demarest Harris, 90, of Punta Gorda, Fla., formerly a resident of Pojac Point, North Kingstown, R.I., passed away Feb. 19, 2012, at her home after a brief illness.

She was born May 18, 1921, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Elise Irene Barker and James Alfred Demarest.

A graduate of Vassar College, Patricia spent most of her life in Rhode Island where she married and raised four daughters. She was a past president of the Junior League of Providence, R.I., past president of the Perennial Planters Garden Club, former chairman of the Museum Associates at RISD, past president of Children’s Friend and Service, and a member of the Colonial Dames of Rhode Island. Patricia loved tennis and boating, and was an avid bridge player.

She is survived by four daughters, Nancy (Bill) MacDougal of Rhode Island, Joan (Tim) Pickman of Archer, Fla., DeeDee (Will) Beard of Lafayette, Colo., and Kathryn (Bill) Jacobson of West Palm Beach, Fla.; nine grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Nancy Demarest Mills; and her husband of 63 years, Stephen C. Harris.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 24, 2012, at The Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd in Punta Gorda. In lieu of flowers, the family thanks you in advance for your generous donations to Planned Parenthood.org.

Arrangements are by ICS Cremation and Funeral.
