An icebreaker activity at an adult singles church fellowship asked those attending to name the celebrity they would most likely invite for dinner if given the opportunity. Among those selected were John F. Kennedy, Robert Redford, Marilyn Monroe, Mother Theresa and Billy Graham. One participant suggested Jesus Christ as another possibility.
In contrast to our choice of Jesus as a dinner companion, we find an occasion in Mark 3:13-14, when Jesus turned the tables and “went up on a mountainside and called to him those he wanted. He appointed 12 that they might be with him.”
