NORTH PORT — City and county leaders gathered outside North Port City Hall Friday afternoon for a ribbon-cutting to celebrate the new Sarasota County Area Transit Commuter Park and Ride area.
Planning for the lot, which sits on the side of North Port City Hall nearest the George Mullen Center, began in 2009, when $501,759 in grants for the project were awarded by the Florida Department of Transportation and Sarasota County. The City Commission granted the easement to the county for the property, and it was accepted and approved by the County Commission, acting as the Sarasota County Transportation Authority, in 2011, according to SCAT.
