NORTH PORT — Once a murder target, the husband of the so-called “Black Widow” was arrested on multiple real estate fraud charges Thursday after authorities say he and his wife defrauded a woman out of thousands of dollars for a rental property they didn’t even own, according to the North Port Police Department.

Matthew Reilly Smith, 26, of the 2500 block of Beaver Terrace, was charged with burglary, grand theft, scheming to defraud up to $20,000, criminal mischief and illegally operating as a real estate broker, in connection with the incident.
