PUNTA GORDA — Their Latin name is Megalops atlanticus. They have been around since prehistoric times and can live an amazing 80 years, reaching lengths of more than 8 feet and weighing upwards of 300 pounds.

Anglers refer to them as the silver king. Because of their incredible strength and fighting spirit, they are a much sought-after saltwater game fish in the state.
