PORT CHARLOTTE — A Goodwill store and several adjacent housing units were evacuated Thursday after a construction crew ruptured an underground propane tank about 11 a.m.

The store, 2325 Tamiami Trail, was in the process of remodeling when a construction worker grading the parking lot behind the structure broke a valve off the top of an underground tank, sending propane fumes into the air, according to Goodwill Industries spokeswoman Kristin O’Donnell.
