MURDOCK — Charlotte County commissioners hope more community faith leaders will volunteer to say a prayer at the opening of the board’s regular meetings. Otherwise, commissioners may wind up having to do it themselves.

“This is a God-based nation ... and if you don’t have someone to say a prayer, I would be happy to volunteer,” said Commissioner Stephen R. Deutsch. “I think we have our own beliefs and faith, and I don’t think we’re embarrassed to stand up and do it.”
