Following a staffing trend around the country of for-profit hospitals and health care systems, Peace River Regional Medical Center in Port Charlotte last month began laying off two dozen employees in an effort to “better align the organization with existing hospital activity levels.”

No positions in direct patient care areasg have been affected by the layoffs, according to market CEO Richard Satcher.
