BRADENTON — Alex Cobb entered spring training with an added confidence after Tampa Bay manager Joe Maddon began camp by announcing Cobb as one of four pitchers “ensconced” in the starting lineup.

In his last two outings, that knowledge has helped in his preparation — and experimentation — heading into the regular season.
