PORT CHARLOTTE — Around 9:45 Sunday morning, Tampa Bay’s players finished their stretches and took to the basepaths of Charlotte Sports Park for a few running drills.

One after another, they ran to first and turned the corner, pulling up as they followed the progress of an imaginary outfielder. They took a lead off of second, got a jump, put their heads down and ran to third.
