PORT CHARLOTTE — When you buy a top-rated golf course for $1.7 million, the first step in ownership is usually not to tinker with it too much. That is the path that Chris Schaeffer’s ownership group has chosen for Riverwood Golf Club.

The group — dubbed CH3-Riverwood Golf Club, LLC, for purposes of legal documents — finalized a deal to purchase the golf club from Pulte Homes on Feb. 19. Schaeffer declined to confirm the purchase price, but it is listed as sold for $1.7 million by the Charlotte County Property Appraiser’s office.
