Commission grapples with consensus definition
NORTH PORT — What makes up a consensus among a governing body? Depending on whom you ask, it either means a majority decision, or a unanimous agreement among the board, whether on a municipal or county level.
It was clear during this week’s North Port City Commission meeting that there was a disconnect among the board as to what the definition truly meant, after Mayor Linda Yates felt she failed to reach a consensus to direct City Manager Jonathan Lewis to craft a letter requesting copies of the North Port Area Chamber of Commerce’s minutes from 2012 meetings of its government-relations and economic-development boards.
