NORTH PORT — Concerned that city commissioners haven’t heard from Tom Jones’ family, nor have they been given any updates, North Port Mayor Linda Yates has asked for legal guidance regarding their absent board member.

Jones, 59, suffered a stroke in early January and hasn’t been to any meetings since. He underwent surgery at Sarasota Memorial Hospital and has been undergoing physical therapy. His family gave one update to the city manager in January, saying the surgery was “successful.” They also requested privacy. It’s unknown when Jones, who was re-elected to a second term on the commission’s Seat 2 in the August 2012 primary, will return to his post.
