PORT CHARLOTTE — Tampa Bay manager Joe Maddon texted Evan Longoria at the right time Wednesday night.

Maddon sent a text message to Longoria to check on the third baseman and his girlfriend, Jaime Edmondson, who had gone into labor earlier that day when doctors decided to induce nearly six weeks before her due date of April 1. Longoria left Port Charlotte to be with Edmondson as she delivered his daughter.
