Vendor-preference rules tweaked
SARASOTA COUNTY — The county cleared the last major hurdle in its efforts to complete a long-overdue update to its Procurement Code Tuesday after county commissioners made some tweaks to local vendor-preference rules.
The Procurement Code governs how vendors bid on projects and services for the county. The local vendor preference gives an edge to contractors in the area who would like to work on certain projects. The county had dela yed the discussion twice since last fall, saying it wanted more input from local vendors. Input from a workshop that drew more than 50 vendors, two separate vendor surveys and meetings with the Gulf Coast Builders Exchange and the American Water Works Association all were used in the final formation of the local-preference ordi nance.
