Alarm foils burglars
PORT CHARLOTTE — Burglars climbed onto a shopping center’s roof, chopped a hole into one vacant store, cut another hole to get into a café next door, and then cut three holes in a wall in the café to gain access to the Westchester Gold and Diamonds store early Friday.
The thieves left empty-handed, however, after tripping a burglar alarm inside the gold store, said Westchester owner Steve Duke. He said nothing appears to have been taken.
