PORT CHARLOTTE — Charlotte County Sheriff’s Street Crimes Unit deputies made a traffic stop Tuesday for a stop sign violation and located 107 grams of marijuana on a passenger. The driver was also arrested on a concealed weapon charge. Arrested were Travis Gordon Campbell, 19, of the 21200 block of Stillwater Drive, and Robert Allen Woods, 26, of the 18200 block of Eblis Avenue, both of Port Charlotte. Deputies observed a 2006 Dodge Charger at Gertrude Avenue and Aaron Street at 2:06 p.m. make an improper stop at the intersection. While speaking to Woods, the driver, an odor of fresh marijuana was detected coming from the car. Passenger Campbell said he had been around some friends earlier who were smoking marijuana. Backup deputies arrived and they were asked to exit the vehicle. Campbell gave consent to search and a deputy felt a large bulge in his shirt. Campbell suddenly pulled away from a deputy by pulling himself out of his shirt and began to run, dropping a large clear plastic bag and his shirt. Deputies gave chase and he was quickly apprehended. Campbell told SCU deputies he sells marijuana so he can make a little money.

A search of the car located an expandable baton, fully extended, in the driver’s door. Both were taken to the Charlotte County Jail. Campbell faces an array of drug charges and resisting an officer. He was released this morning on $7,000 bond. Woods was charged with carrying a concealed weapon and posted a $1,000 bond.
