Sheriff seeking more space
SARASOTA COUNTY — The Sarasota County Commission will hear a presentation from Sheriff Tom Knight Tuesday that could eventually lead to the construction of a new public safety complex in Sarasota to replace small and outdated law enforcement facilities.
“The current trend in law enforcement, on a national basis, is to consolidate services for operational cost savings and to ensure that facilities are adequately secure from both manmade and natural incidents,” Knight wrote in a letter to commission. “We currently rely on several private sector establishments to ensure that our staff and a portion of our equipment will be safe, secure and available when we are called upon to fulfill our first responder responsibilities.”
