The project that the Charlotte County-Punta Gorda Metropolitan Planning Organization slated as its number-one transportation initiative for 2017-2018 didn’t make the cut for the five-year tentative work program report approved by the Florida Department of Transportation.

MPO officials say the completion of the 8-foot “mega sidewalk” on the west side of U.S. 41 from Midway Boulevard to Enterprise Drive, which is estimated to cost $1.88 million, was dependent upon federal funding.
