CCSO: Boy, 3, dies from self-inflicted gunshot wound
Charlotte County Sheriff’s Major Crimes Unit detectives are investigating the death of a 3-year-old Port Charlotte boy who died of a gunshot wound early Sunday morning. CCSO received the call at 3:40 a.m. to 21000 block of Hubbard Ave. Deputies and MCU detectives responded to the home and Charlotte County EMS transported the child to Peace River Regional Medical Center where the boy was pronounced dead.
MCU detectives continue their investigation at the home along with Crime Scene technicians. Detectives say the child apparently got ahold of an unsecured firearm and suffered a fatal gunshot wound. Detectives have interviewed the child’s parents and no charges have been filed at this time pending the outcome of the investigation. No names have been released as the investigation continues.
