SUV plows into convenience store

Charlotte County Sheriff's deputies were called to the Circle K at 2646 Tamiami Trail (corner of U.S. 41 and West Tarpon Boulevard), Port Charlotte, at 6:17 p.m. Thursday. An elderly man lost control and plowed through the front doors; luckily there were no injuries. Sheriff's and Charlotte County Fire/EMS personnel were on scene and reported there was no structural damage to the building. The blue Suzuki SUV was towed out of the building. No other details were immediately available Thursday night.

No one was injured Thursday evening when 62-year-old Port Charlotte resident Keith Dewsbury lost control of his black Suzuki SUV and drove through the front doors of the Circle K store on the 2600 block of Tamiami Trail (corner of U.S. 41 and West Tarpon Boulevard), Port Charlotte. Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office and Charlotte County Fire/EMS personnel responded to the scene but no one was injured, including Dewsbury. The store was open for business on Friday, as no structural damage was reported, with the front doors now boarded up. Dewsbury could not be reached for comment and store manager Patty Godbey declined to comment. Dewsbury was cited for careless driving, according to a report from the CCSO.
