PUNTA GORDA — Twentieth Judicial Circuit Judge John Duryea granted a motion Thursday to allow Melissa Bailey, the woman found guilty of performing sex acts on her infant daughter, to attend her grandmother’s funeral today.

Bailey, who is in custody at the Charlotte County Jail, will be escorted by sheriff’s deputies to the graveside service, which will be held at the Royal Palm Memorial Gardens in Punta Gorda. During a hearing at the Charlotte County Justice Center, Duryea stipulated that at least one of the deputies escorting Bailey be a female, and allowed Bailey the hours of 9:30 a.m. to noon to attend the service.
