PUNTA GORDA — For some students, getting called on to read aloud in class causes more anxiety than opportunity for learning.

“A class of 25 students can be intimidating,” explained Richard Shafer, principal of Charlotte High School. “Imagine if a student had a speech impediment — they won’t feel comfortable asking questions in class. They are more likely to stay quiet.”
