SARASOTA COUNTY — The Sarasota County Commission voted unanimously Tuesday to begin a process that could lower impact fees on new buildings for the first time in five years.

The commission focused on road impact fees in a workshop with the county’s Planning Department. The fees, which are based on highway capacity, or the number of vehicles on the road, were reduced by 50 percent in early 2011. That reduction is set to expire Feb. 1.
