Runners honor first responders, military

More than 340 runners of all ages took off from the start line during the Second Annual Remember the Fallen 5K Memorial Run Saturday morning at the George Mullen Activity Center in North Port. Sponsored by the city of North Port and Zoomers Southwest Florida Running and Triathlon Club, the run is held to remember, honor and support first responders and members of the armed forces who protect and serve our community and our country.

Kevin Bosma, firefighter/EMT with North Port Fire Rescue, rings a bell during a moment of silence for those first responders who lost their lives due to the tragedy of 9/11. Inspired by the events that took place on Sept. 11, 2001, the city of North Port Fire Rescue Honor Guard played host to the second Remember the Fallen 5K Memorial Run Saturday. A portion of the proceeds from the event will be donated to the National Fallen Firefighter Foundation and the city of North Port Fire Rescue Honor Guard.

More than 340 runners turned out Saturday morning for North Port’s second Run for the Fallen 5K. The run is held to remember, honor and support the first responders and members of the armed forces who protect and serve our community and our country. A portion of the proceeds raised during the event will be donated to the National Fallen Firefighter Foundation and the city of North Port Fire Rescue Honor Guard.
