North Port, Venice men injured in River Road crash
SARASOTA COUNTY — Two men were seriously injured Saturday following an early-morning crash on River Road. According to a Florida Highway Patrol report, Robert Robinson Jr., 42, of North Port, was driving north on River Road at about 6:50 a.m. Saturday when he lost control of his 2006 Toyota Corolla and failed to navigate the curve in the road just past Winchester Boulevard. His car left the roadway and went on the right shoulder of the road. The report states Robinson then steered to the left, overcorrecting and causing his car to spin counterclockwise and into the path of a 2008 Infinity driven by Charles F. McNamee, 57, of Venice.
Robinson was taken to Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg with serious injuries. McNamee, who also had serious injuries, was taken to Venice Regional Medical Center. Both men were wearing their seatbelts. However, alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash, the FHP report states.
