Local children were happy to give donations to help the Shop with a Cop program recently at Walmart, where North Port Police Explorers were collecting money to help buy $100 gift cards from the store to help 75 children shop with police officers at Christmastime.

NORTH PORT — Wanting to give back to the community, new business owner Robert Stiff of Talon Towing and Transport says he’s eagerly planning to support the Shop with a Cop program.

“I’m entering a team in the golf tournament and sponsoring a hole,” Stiff said. “Shop with a Cop is more than just officers shopping with children. The kids are mentored by the officers. They develop a bond as they work together to buy gifts for their families. I think it’s a great program for the community.”
