PUNTA GORDA — In the past year, three mail trucks have been rear-ended as carriers were servicing roadside mailboxes. Another two got struck by motorists backing out of parking spots.

Still another had a corner of its roof ripped off by a ladder protruding from a van’s rack. The collision occurred after the van’s driver aborted an attempt to pass the mail truck because another vehicle was occupying the passing lane.
