SARASOTA COUNTY — During an upcoming double murder trial, an attorney may argue that John Allen Lee, 48, was defending himself when he was reported to have brutally killed Jason Salter in his Venice home.

However a motion recently was filed by the state to block jurors from hearing Salter, 46, had a hot temper — at times allegedly threatening to “slit people’s throats” — or a criminal record.
