A rare opportunity to see live action roller derby comes to the Turner Agri-Civic Center Saturday, when four teams will clash on the track, all to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project.
Roller derby is a fast-paced contact sport in which two teams of five women roller skate around a circular track trying to either pass or block members of the opposite team. At breakneck speeds, one player on each team, called the “jammer,” tries to outlap the opposing team members. The other players, called “blockers,” try to prevent the other team’s jammer from making progress through the pack.
