Man creates standoff after alleged armed robbery

Neighbors of Daniel Naylor volunteered to wash and keep dogs that were taken from the home on Miro Court after gas was thrown into the home Thursday morning to try to get Naylor to come out. He allegedly robbed two people at gunpoint and fled to the home in the Jockey Club neighborhood of North Port, where he was staying.

At least 30 law enforcement vehicles from the North Port Police Department and Charlotte County Sheriff's Office lined a block close to where they thought robbery suspect Daniel Naylor locked himself inside a home Thursday morning on Miro Court.

NORTH PORT — After allegedly robbing two women at gunpoint at
1 a.m., Daniel Naylor fled to a Jockey Club home, leading officers on a 10-hour manhunt before he was arrested late Thursday morning.

According to the North Port Police Department, the 23-year-old North Port man stole $200 from the women in an alleged drug-related incident at an Alam Avenue home, then fled in a gray BMW. Police quickly found the car 3 miles away, parked in the backyard of a home on the 6700 block of Miro Court, where Naylor was staying. Police surrounded the house and officers spent hours trying to coax him to surrender.
